Artist's Comments

okay yea i really do lack creative titles lol but i can't help but think of Bambi x3
it's 12:30am oh wells ^^;
uhmm yea, not sure if i call this original either, again this is a picture i found in a book about animals and i was asked to draw this as practice by my mentor
oil pastels on 20x25 coloured paper
uhmm this took forever xD mainly because i only go down to the studio for 1.5 hrs a week and alot of times i don't work because i can't work when i'm just...not in the mood xP
I'm kind of happy with how this turned out, except after looking at it for a while i start to see so many flaws but i'm done with this

again it's too big for me to scan so a picture will do, which kind of sucks because i still don't think a picture will do it justice but oh wells

original photo (c) rightful owner

can't remember the photographer or book...^^;

[edit]
retook photo to make sure the wall doesn't show up
but not sure if the quality got worse...think it's more blurry or something xP

Wow. This is a wonderful piece. You don't see oil pastels used that much, and I say you used them to perfection.

You matched a tone of color throughout the piece very well. All the colors belong on the page. You managed to capture the depth of field of the camera with the flowers and greenery in the back out of focus. The fur on the fawn and the flowers right below it have much sharper edges, highlights and shadows to them. Great attention to detail. I am not an expert on deer anatomy, but everything feels like it is in place. The fur has a wonderful texture to it, it feels like fur. It has highlight and shadow and is going in different directions and tones. The modeling of the neck and torso is especially wonderful, especially with the spots to work with. I've always loved the texture oil pastels make. It is perfect for fur.

I honestly cannot see anything wrong with this piece. The only tiny nitpik I have is could there be more contrast of highlight and shadow in the head like on the body? I'm not sure if the lighting for that was there though.

Phenomenal job! :clap:

You really captured the innocence of a young fawn. The grass strands and flowers look amazing! ...Not the mention the fur and effort you put in to actually making it appear to be fur! I esspecially love those eyes.... they're like dark pools of innocence...

wow.... amazing, at first when i looked at it in the small version i thought it was a photograph from national geographic. AMAZING. hope to see more art =D
:iconichi13:
thank you
i wouldn't say perfection, but i work alot with oil pastels cuz they're just so fun and remind me so much of when i was 5.

well the part about capturing depth and all, i just draw as it is in a photograph the best i could ^^;
the fur was the biggest pain, i'm very into details xP

i expect alot from myself and notice even the tiniest things so after i finish a piece i would pick out the smallest flaws that others find okay ^^;
thank you for the comment , i would look at the highlighting around the head but when i'm done i'm done, or else i'll freak out over small stuff and most likely end up re doing alot of the parts xP
:iconichi13:
thank you
i liked how you refered to the fawn as innocence so i changed that as the title cuz i thought it was very fitting.
the fur was definately a pain
and i would say my favourite part of the whole drawing would be the eyes
:iconichi13:
lol maybe it is from national geographic =O
yea right xD
thanks for the comment
it probably will be a while before you see art posted again xD
:iconskyei:
